Vamp Disease

A Major Pain for Runners

Sometimes, the pain on top of your foot is actually a skin irritation which some runners call “Vamp disease.” Vamp disease is a common condition that is seen in all walks of life. It occurs when the top of the foot becomes irritated and inflamed. The condition is usually caused by ill-fitting shoes, although it can also be caused by other factors such as bonespurs, arthritis or friction. Vamp disease is not a serious condition, but it can be painful and it can cause the skin to become irritated.

If you think you might have Vamp disease, see your doctor so that he or she can diagnose the condition and recommend treatment.

Treatment for Vamp disease usually involves wearing shoes that fit properly and using a cream or ointment to relieve the pain and inflammation. In some cases, corticosteroid injections or surgery may be necessary. Vamp disease is a common condition, but it is not serious and it can be treated. If you think you might have Vamp disease, see your doctor so that he or she can diagnose the condition and recommend treatment.
